A few of the questions we are asked most often about custom orders, lead times and processes.

THE BASICS

A nameplate is a metal or plastic label that carries product information — brand logo, model, serial number, voltage ratings, warnings — commonly found on machinery, appliances and instruments. The rating plate on your electrical box, the operating labels on a machine, the metal logo tag on a designer bag: all nameplates. Materials range from aluminum, brass and stainless steel to PC, PET and acrylic, chosen to suit the operating environment.

CHOOSING MATERIALS

We recommend the most suitable material and process based on your application — machinery, engineering, identification labeling, automotive and more. Not sure? Tell us the operating environment and we will advise directly.

Aluminum is the most popular: light, easy to fabricate, anodizable in many colors — the best value. Stainless steel is strong and corrosion-resistant, suited to heavy industry, chemical plants and harsh outdoor sites. Brass offers premium texture for signage, awards and special applications. For general equipment labeling aluminum is usually enough; go stainless when the environment is severe.

For outdoor use, choose anodized aluminum or stainless steel. Anodizing seals the color inside the oxide layer, far outlasting surface printing under sun and rain. Plain screen-printed graphics may fade with long exposure, so for outdoor parts we recommend etch-and-fill or anodic dyeing. For high-temperature or chemical-contact environments, tell us when requesting a quote so we can recommend the right material and finish.

PC (polycarbonate) is impact-resistant and can be sub-surface printed to protect graphics — common for panels and key labels. PET is thin, flexible and economical, ideal for curved surfaces and high-volume label-type marking. Acrylic has a clear, premium look for signs and indoor displays. All are insulating, lightweight and low-cost; heat and weather resistance are below metal, so evaluate before long-term outdoor or high-temperature use.

Common metal nameplate thicknesses: 0.5, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mm. General equipment labels work at 0.5–0.8 mm; choose 1.0 mm or more for rigidity, depth or screw mounting; PET label stock runs about 0.05–0.25 mm. Standard thicknesses ship fastest.

PROCESSES & FINISHES

Laser engraving marks the surface directly — ideal for serial numbers, small runs and variable content, no tooling needed. Etching chemically recesses the artwork for paint filling — dimensional, wear-resistant and refined, best for medium-to-large runs. Screen printing offers wide color choice at the lowest unit cost in volume. In short: variable content → laser; durable and dimensional → etching; colorful volume runs → screen printing.

Surface treatments: stamping, laser cutting, hairline (brushed), sandblasting, anodizing, electroplating, baking paint and laser engraving.
Printing methods: screen printing, offset printing, digital UV printing and pad printing. Processes can be combined to achieve the ideal appearance and durability.

Anodizing is an electrochemical treatment exclusive to aluminum that grows a hard oxide layer on the surface. The layer can be dyed, sealing color inside — scratch-resistant, weatherproof and fade-resistant. Common colors: natural silver, black, gold, blue, red and gunmetal, in matte or gloss. It is the key process behind the look and durability of aluminum nameplates — strongly recommended for outdoor parts.

Hairline (brushed): strong metallic look, hides fingerprints — the go-to for industrial and brand nameplates. Matte: understated and glare-free, good for labels that must be read. Gloss: eye-catching mirror finish for premium goods and awards, though it shows fingerprints and scratches more. If in doubt, hairline is the safe choice for B2B.

Yes — laser engraving is the best solution for serials: every piece can differ with no tooling. Pricing is a one-time program setup fee plus a per-piece engraving charge; unit cost drops with volume. Barcodes, QR codes and anti-counterfeit serials are all possible. For quoting, provide the numbering scheme, character size, plate dimensions and quantity.

Yes. Solid-color, high-volume artwork suits screen printing; gradients and photo-grade full color use digital UV printing; metallic-texture logos can be done with etch-and-fill or anodic dyeing. Send an AI file or high-resolution artwork for evaluation. For strict color requirements we recommend a sample first to avoid disputes over color difference.

ORDERING & QUOTES

No minimum order quantity — we handle everything from single pieces and small samples to production runs of 10,000 pcs or more. Laser engraving needs no tooling, so even a few pieces are fine; screen printing and etching involve tooling and setup costs, so small-run unit prices are higher — we explain this when quoting. We recommend sampling first, then committing to production: safer for both sides.

Five essentials: ① material ② size and thickness ③ quantity ④ drawing or artwork ⑤ finish and processing requirements (adhesive backing, mounting holes, serials). Add your deadline and we can quote quickly and accurately. The more complete the information, the faster and more precise the quote.

Vector files are best: AI, CDR, vector PDF or CAD (DWG). Bitmap files (JPG, PNG) need redrawing and may incur a processing fee. Only have a sketch or photo? No problem — our drawing service converts your material into a production-ready file.

Sampling takes about 5–7 working days depending on process complexity. Sample fees depend on material and process. For urgent samples, just tell us your schedule and we will discuss.

Yes — you supply the plates, we handle engraving, printing and other processing. Please confirm in advance: ① supplied material meets processing requirements ② responsibility for material defects ③ we suggest 3–5% extra stock for process loss. Charged as processing fees only; describe the supplied material when requesting a quote.

LEAD TIME & SHIPPING

Production generally takes about 1–2 weeks, depending on process, quantity and current capacity. Small laser-engraved runs are fastest; multi-step jobs like etching and anodizing take longer. For rush orders, tell us your required date — we check capacity and give you a straight answer: if we can do it we will, and we never overcommit.

Within Taiwan we ship by courier and freight, with pallet freight for large orders; freight is charged at actual cost and stated on the quotation. We also have export experience for overseas orders — inquiries welcome.

QUALITY & AFTER-SALES

Durability comes from the material-plus-process combination: anodized aluminum and etch-and-fill stainless steel offer the best weather resistance — years outdoors without fading; screen-printed parts are best kept indoors. We are an MIT factory in New Taipei City with inspection procedures before every shipment. Quality criteria and handling are confirmed clearly at order time.

We commonly use 3M adhesives along with foam and solvent-based tapes. 3M adhesives are weather- and heat-resistant with lasting tack — recommended for outdoor or critical applications. Bond strength also depends on the mounting surface and its cleanliness; for rough or powder-coated surfaces we suggest thick foam tape. Tell us the surface and we will pick the right adhesive.

Please inspect promptly on receipt; photograph any defects and contact us. If confirmed as a manufacturing issue, we rework or replace — no passing the buck. We recommend agreeing acceptance criteria (color tolerance, cosmetic standards) at order time to avoid mismatched expectations. We are a factory-direct operation: when something goes wrong, you can reach us and we fix it fast.

Tech Notes

Start With the Operating Environment

If the plate will see oil, acids, alkalis or cleaning agents — or live outdoors through sun, rain, heat and humidity — stainless steel is the safe call. Its corrosion and heat resistance are inherent, and etch-and-fill graphics stay legible for decades in punishing conditions.

For indoor equipment, instrument panels and general industrial settings, aluminum is more than capable — and brings advantages stainless cannot match.

Where Aluminum Wins: Weight, Workability, Finish Options

Aluminum weighs roughly a third of stainless steel, a real benefit for large plates or weight-sensitive products such as portable equipment. It also stamps, bends and machines more readily, so complex shapes cost less to form.

On finishing, aluminum offers anodizing — hard, weatherproof and available in a range of colors — plus hairline and bead-blasted textures. That breadth of finish is why so many brand nameplates are aluminum.

On Cost

At equal size and thickness, aluminum generally costs less in both material and fabrication. But a plate that fades or corrodes early because the material did not suit the environment costs more to replace than the difference saved — which is why we always ask "where will it be installed?" before quoting.

Quick Selection Rules

Outdoors, oil, chemicals or heat → stainless steel. Indoors, weight-sensitive, colored anodized finishes, or tighter budgets → aluminum. Still unsure? Send us the operating environment and your drawing — we will recommend the material and process directly.

Panel and Buttons, Merged Into One

The traditional approach cuts holes in a panel and mounts individual buttons behind them. A membrane switch instead stacks thin film layers so that printed graphics and key actuation become a single part — a continuous, sealed, slim surface with a much cleaner look.

Common Materials: PC and PET

The graphic overlay is typically printed on PC (polycarbonate) or PET film. PC prints beautifully with excellent color; PET endures far more flex cycles, suiting high-frequency key areas. Surfaces can be matte-textured (scratch- and fingerprint-resistant) or glossy (vivid color), with clear windows reserved for displays and indicators.

Why Equipment Makers Love Them

First, cleanability: with no seams, the surface wipes down with alcohol or cleaning agents — the reason medical devices adopted them wholesale. Second, graphic freedom: icons, scales and brand colors print in one pass, and a redesign only means new artwork. Third, thinness: total build height is measured in millimeters, freeing up product design space.

Where They Fit

Instrument control panels, medical device interfaces, appliance keypads and industrial start/stop controls are the classic applications. If your product is operated frequently and must look good and clean easily, a membrane switch is almost always the answer.

Etch-and-Fill: Dimensional, Abrasion-Proof, Built to Last

Chemical etching cuts the artwork into the metal surface as recesses, which are then filled with baked enamel. Because the graphics sit below the surface, abrasion cannot wear the text away — for machinery rating plates, outdoor markings and anything expected to serve ten or twenty years, etch-and-fill is the first choice. It also carries a tactile, premium relief.

Laser Engraving: Precision and Variable Data

A laser marks graphics directly into the material. Its killer feature: every piece can differ — serial numbers, dates and barcodes are fast and exact. Line resolution is high, small text renders crisply, and marks are permanent, making it the standard for traceability.

Screen Printing: Color and Cost in Balance

Ink transferred through a mesh stencil delivers the richest color of the three — multi-color registration, large solid areas, saturated brand colors — at the best unit cost in volume. Panel graphics, full-color logos and scale printing all rely on it. With proper baking and surface treatment it wears well, though heavy long-term abrasion still favors etching.

In Practice, They Combine

Real jobs rarely use just one process: a stainless plate might be etch-and-filled for the main graphics with a laser-engraved serial block; an aluminum panel might be screen printed overall with etched critical markings. When we quote, we recommend the process mix for your environment, budget and volume — that judgment is what four decades of production buys you.
